What are some tips I can use to cut my redecorating costs?
Being frugal when decorating can be extremely fun, and something you can brag about to your friends. Most of us love to hear about great bargains and unique finds, so don't be afraid to search for ways to save money as you decorate, but remember, you do have to live with the selections every day so shop for quality, and money savers. One of the best ways to save money is by using a furniture retailer's decorator.
These skilled and often licensed resources are available free of charge to help you better design your project, and to obtain the furniture and accessories you need. Many of the new design centers located around the country provide this new service as an added incentive to purchases at their stores. Another way to save money is by shopping around for furniture, accessories, window, wall and floor coverings. With the advent of mail order catalogs and the Internet, it is much easier to search for the perfect furniture and accessories without traveling to retail stores all over town. Prices can be easily compared between all the various sources, and many online retailers offer free shipping and free in-home trials.
Patience is often rewarded with sales or special offers so it is important to not be in a rush with the project schedule. Many retailers will work with you and your decorator to provide special pricing for specific projects and multiple item purchases. By discussing your project with your retailer, you may be able to save on the purchase even if there isn't a current sale.
One of our personal favorites is to be creative in your sources by looking in alternative places, such as architectural salvage stores and flea markets. Many recycled, discarded, or unexpected items can be reclaimed to add an eclectic accent to the room. It's a great idea to search for old doors to use for tables, headboards, or wall dcor, as well as unusual artifacts for decorating shelves. Each of these items is unique and will surely serve as a conversation piece with your guests. Often these unique reclaimed and found items are the ones you are the most proud ofeach with a story to tell.
